Reflection

As the leader of an outstanding group of men and women during these challenging times of COVID-19 and its effects on our community, it is imperative that I share my appreciation of our staff, elected and appointed officials, community volunteers, and the best citizenry a leader can ever ask for. As an individual with health challenges that puts me at even a higher risk to contract COVID-19, my obligation to my staff, stakeholders, citizens, and the myriad of groups that I represent is even greater than any one thing I have ever been responsible for ever in my lifetime.

This “Great” city has one of the highest COVID-19 positive rates in Miami-Dade County and it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of all those I am responsible for as YOUR City Manager. I ask, no I implore you to promote and enforce social distancing, encourage self-responsibility, abide by all local, county, and state orders, and for those that enforce the laws of this great city, county, state, and country, please hold those accountable to the letter of the law. We cannot get through this without all of you stepping up and taking accountability, responsibility, and leading each other through this pandemic.
I am very fortunate, blessed, and honored to be your leader. I would never ask of you what I am not willing to do myself. I pride myself in being transparent and open to everyone I encounter. I am no better than the lowest or the highest person on the totem pole. I appreciate each of you sincerely and wholeheartedly without hesitation or reservation. Keep up the good work and please stay encouraged during these very trying and challenging times. I live, breath, and sleep Opa-locka and I am proud to be your leader!
Very Respectfully,

John E. Pate, MS, CM
