Mayor
Joseph L. Kelley
With a passion to help his community, Mayor Kelley has always been at the forefront in doing what he can to uplift our community. For seventeen years he was employed by the City as a Parks Supervisor and acted as Interim Director on several occasions. Known to many of the youth as “Coach Joe”, Mayor Kelley has been an ardent supporter of programs for our youth. This has earned him recognition from both those within the city as well as across the State of Florida. Not only is this passion evident for young people but the elderly as well. You can often find the Mayor spending time fishing with the seniors or treating them to various fun days and outings. Heeding a greater call to serve, in 2000 he was elected to the Opa-locka City Commission receiving the highest number of votes which allowed him to serve as Vice-Mayor. Continuing his commitment to bring a better quality of life to his community he was actively involved in getting the Commission to pass legislation which has resulted in positive progress for the city. One of the accomplishments is the current website which we now enjoy. Because of his desire to continue to serve the community, in September 2004, he ran for and won a Special election to serve as Mayor. |
