Dorothy "Dottie" Johnson, GCDF, ODF, CLFCI

Dorothy “Dottie” Johnson is a retired federal government employee. She implemented, administered, and monitored district-wide EEO/Diversity policies for the United States Postal Service and ensured compliance of Title VII of the Civil Rights.

She attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School where she graduated with several honors and awards. In order to further her education, she attended Miami Dade Community College majoring in Criminology, and Postal Management. In May of 1996, she was trained and certified as a Federal Mediator. In 1997, she completed several business courses at the University of Michigan. In October of 2000, she was trained and certified as a Global Career Development Facilitator. In October of 2003; she was trained and certified as an Organizational Development Practitioner. In 2001 & 2011, she was trained as a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator.

Dottie is active in numerous community organizations, and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. She serves as the Chair, The Historic Hampton House Community Trust, Inc.; Lifetime Member/Former President, South Florida Chapter of Blacks In Government; Board Director, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Festivities Committee, Inc.; Credit Committee Member, North Dade Federal Community Development Credit Union; Member, UP-PAC; Member, PASS Executive, North Dade Middle School; Vice-President, St. Thomas University Campus Community Alliances; 1st Vice President, Women Elected Municipal Government in Florida; Secretary, North Dade Youth & Family Coalition; Secretary, Florida Black Caucus, Local Elected Officials; Region V Director, Florida After-school Alliance (FASA); Board Director Miami-Dade County Community Action Agency and Secretary/Treasurer, Miami Dade Black Caucus, Local Elected Officials.

She was one of the key individuals in the planning of the nation’s second largest Employee Development Conference among federal agencies with approximately 1,427 in attendance. She received a Special Achievement Award for her accomplishments in the Hurricane Andrew Relief coordination. She has been the recipient of numerous Exceptional Individual Performance Awards. She was the recipient of the Federal Employee of the Year “Equal Employment Opportunity Award”, as well as the recipient for the Vice President Partnership Award. In addition, she was the recipient of the Florida Regional Minority Business Council “Advocate of the Year Award”. Dottie was the recipient of the Federal Employee of the Year “Chairman of Excellence Award”. In 2010, she received the “Beyond the Bell Award. 1n 2010, she was nominated by the Miami Dade County Commission and her name was submitted to the State of Florida Governor Charlie Chris as a Board of Director for The Children’s Trust.

Dottie has lectured to various audiences and has served as an instructor, facilitator and motivational speaker on issues pertaining to affirmative action, women’s issues, diversity awareness, community empowerment and workforce development. In addition, she is very active in the community and is often called upon to be a speaker and/or mediator by local schools, colleges, universities, churches, civil and professional organizations; as well as private businesses.

In April of 2000, she founded and currently serves as the President of The Portrait of Empowerment Inc. (South Florida Community Dream Team), a not-for-profit community based organization. This organization is dedicated to enabling individuals and families to become self-sufficient, which ultimately will improve the economic development as well as the quality of life in the community-at-large. Ms. Johnson is a strong advocate for civil rights and equality. In 2001, she was selected as a candidate for 2002 and 2003 International Executive Guild’s Registry. In addition, she was selected as a candidate for 2001-2009 edition of International WHO’S WHO’S of Professionals. She also serves as the Volunteers’ Coordinator for The Carrie Meek Foundation, Inc. In 2004, she served as the Interim Mayor for the City of Opa-locka, FL. In 2010, she was elected as the Vice-Mayor for the City of Opa-locka, FL.

In May of 2001, she graduated from the Interdenominational Theological Center with a Certificate of Theology in Atlanta, GA. She is a member of the Jesus People Ministries Church. She is married to Roy Johnson and is a devoted mother of two daughters: Roilanda, Tamika, and proud grandmother of Joshua and Nisaiah. She is better known in the community as “Lady Justice”.
