The Public Works Department is is responsible for maintaining roads, sidewalks, public rights-of-way, including landscaped medians, storm drainage system, and canals.
The Department provides engineering review of site development plans and right-of-way permitting services. The City of Opa-locka Public Works Department is divided into two main departments: Streets and Drainage, and Utilities.
STREETS AND DRAINAGE-This department is responsible for offering infrastructure maintenance and construction services to the City in a prudent and timely way in order to provide safe and efficient public roads, sidewalks and related facilities as well as assisting other agencies when needed.
In addition to planning, designing, constructing, and operating all public infrastructure and related facilities, the department is also responsible for maintaining roadway repairs, resurface streets; refresh striping on streets; remove debris from right-of-way; rehabilitate, rebuild and repair pavement, sidewalks, and canal maintanance.
Drainage and stormwater system-Replace failed storm sewer pipes and drainage inlets; install new and additional storm sewer outfalls; de-silt pipe networks; re-grade drainage swales; skim drainage boxes; maintain swales.
Permitting activities-Assist all other agencies with permitting – right-of-way, for utilities; inspect both residential and commercial permits for new and upgraded construction projects – pathways; sight development plan reviews.
