The Opa-locka Police Youth Academy is committed to providing a well structured academic, instructional and behavioral program.  The Opa-locka Police Youth Academy offers a full range of activities and services to motivate youth released from residential commitment programs to improve delinquent behaviors.  This program is designed to promote successful, responsible citizens in a world of continuing change.  Under the supervision of the Director of the Opa-locka Police Youth Academy, students are encouraged to make better choices in life and to develop leadership roles.

In partnership with Department of Juvenile Justice, families, schools, communities, law enforcement and other agencies, the Academy anticipates increasing public safety, while simultaneously decreasing juvenile delinquency.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Opa-locka Police Youth Academy accepts up to fifty four (54) students who have committed actions deemed delinquent and unacceptable in society through the Department of Juvenile Justice court system.  The Academy endeavors to rehabilitate youth through special academic and counseling sessions, which positively impact their self-esteem and self-confidence.  Special programs are created to meet the individual needs of students who find difficulty in adjusting to home, school and community environment.  Students participate in special classes and activities which enhance skills necessary in the workplace and those which prepare them for high school graduation and the general education diploma (GED).

OBJECTIVES

To ensure that all youth are provided the benefits of social and academic services.  These benefits will produce functional outcomes which are necessary for youth to become successful individuals.
