City Attorney's Office
This City Attorney is the chief legal officer for the City of Opa-locka. He represents the Commission, Manager, Clerk and the various Departments, Boards and Authorities. In addition, the City Attorney defends the City of Opa-locka in those matters not handled by counsel for the City’s insurance carrier, represents management in grievance or arbitration proceedings, drafts and reviews contracts and transactional documents, and prepares legislation which is ultimately enacted by the Opa-locka City Commission to become either policy or to be codified as law.
An immeasurable task of the City Attorney is to provide legal counsel to the elected and appointed officials, and department directors on a daily basis so as to avoid legal pitfalls and, to the greatest extent possible, avoid liability.
Vision: To increase awareness within the City of Opa-locka’s governing structure, administration and workforce with respect to recognizing those legal obligations under Florida law for which are accountable and which are necessary to maintain a status of being The Great City of Opa-locka.
